What you actually have to do
Three things, and one of them is ours
Sign it out, book it, box it. Everything after that is us.
- 01Your bit
Sign out, then tell us
Take it off your Apple or Google account, then book it on the donate form under "Phones". Two minutes, no account needed.
Signing out is the one step only you can do. It is what keeps the phone usable.
- 02Your bit
Put it in a small box
We email a free postage label. A phone fits the smallest parcel size, so any padded box or envelope will do. Charger in if you have it.
- 03Our bit
We do the rest
Every phone is wiped following the NIST SP 800-88 process. Working phones are refurbished and passed on; the rest give up their parts and are recycled properly.
Reused first, recycled last. Nothing goes to landfill.
One thing before you send it: sign out
A phone or tablet still signed in to your account stays locked to you after a reset, so nobody else can use it. Two minutes now keeps it a working phone instead of spare parts.
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → tap your name → Sign Out. Then Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → Erase All Content and Settings.
- Android: Settings → Accounts → remove your Google account (and your Samsung account on a Galaxy) before you factory reset. Reset first and the phone stays locked to you.
Can’t get into it, or it won’t switch on? Send it anyway and tell us in the notes. Check your phone is ready →
What we take
Working or not. Other Android phones too: not sure about yours? Book it under “Phones” and we will confirm before you send anything.

Questions people actually ask
Is it free to donate my phone?
Yes. The postage label is free and there is nothing to pay at any point.
Do I need to wipe my phone first?
No, we wipe every phone ourselves. What we do need is for you to sign it out of your Apple or Google account before you send it, because a phone left signed in stays locked to you and can only be used for parts.
Can I donate a phone with a cracked screen or a dead battery?
Yes. Cracked screens, dead batteries and phones that will not switch on are all welcome. The one exception is a swollen or leaking battery, which cannot go in the post: message us and we will sort out what to do.
I have forgotten the passcode. Can I still donate it?
Yes. Send it and tell us in the notes. Your data is not at risk, because we wipe it ourselves. If it is still linked to your account it may only be usable for parts, which is still worth doing.
What happens to my phone?
Working phones are refurbished and passed on or sold, and that resale is what pays for the free labels and the processing. Phones that cannot be reused give up their parts, and what is left is recycled through a registered waste carrier. Nothing goes to landfill.
Are you a charity?
No. Donate Computers UK is a social enterprise based in Huddersfield, not a registered charity, so donations are not eligible for Gift Aid. We are a registered upper-tier waste carrier with the Environment Agency (CBDU607333).
