Every device we place ends up somewhere with a person attached to it. We would love to introduce you to them.
But the schools and charities we supply haven’t given us permission to put their students on a marketing page, and we are not going to invent someone. So here is what we can tell you instead.
WHAT WE CAN TELL YOU
Both counted, not modelled. The methodology page shows how every figure on this site is worked out and flags the one that is an estimate.
WHY THIS PAGE ISN’T FULL OF PHOTOS
The organisations we supply work with children, with people out of work, and with families who are having a hard time. A photograph of someone at their lowest point, captioned with our logo, is worth something to us and nothing to them.
So we ask, and mostly the answer is no, and that is the correct answer. A school protecting its students from being used as marketing material is a school doing its job.
When someone does want their story told — in their own words, with their consent, and with nothing exaggerated — it will go here, and you will be able to ring them and check.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS TO A DONATED MACHINE
No names, because we haven’t got permission for names. But this part is just the process, and the process is real.

IT ARRIVES AND GETS LOGGED
Make, model and serial number recorded before anything is touched.

THE DATA GOES FIRST
Sanitised to NIST SP 800-88 and verified. Anything that fails verification is physically destroyed rather than passed on.

IT GETS TESTED PROPERLY
Battery, screen, ports, storage, thermals. A machine that would frustrate someone is not a gift, it is a burden.

IT GETS A CLEAN OPERATING SYSTEM
Something supported and current, so it is still usable in three years rather than three months.

IT GOES TO AN ORGANISATION THAT ASKED FOR IT
A school, a charity, or a group working with young people. They decide who needs it — they know, and we do not.

AND IF IT IS GENUINELY DEAD
It is recycled responsibly through a registered route, and the donor is told that is what happened rather than being left to assume otherwise.
