Can My Laptop
Run Windows 11?

Windows 10 stopped receiving updates in October 2025. The requirement that fails most otherwise-capable machines is the processor: Microsoft’s floor is Intel Core, 8th generation (Coffee Lake, late 2017) or newer, or AMD Ryzen 2000 series (Zen+) or newer.

These pages work the answer out from the processors each model actually shipped with. Two laptops that look identical can sit either side of the line — a ThinkPad T470 and a T480 are one generation apart, and that generation is the whole answer.

This is a small list and it is growing as we handle more machines. If yours is not here, the checker answers it in two questions.

Meets the requirement

Not officially supported

Which is not the same as “cannot run it”. Windows 11 installs on unsupported hardware; what you lose is Microsoft’s commitment to update it.

If yours does not make the cut

Three options, in the order most people should consider them: keep running it, install a supported Linux distribution so it keeps getting security updates, or pass it on for reuse. Scrapping a working machine is the only genuinely wasteful one.
