We've been shortlisted
The Sustainable Compute Network has been named a finalist in the first-ever Green Growth Awards, run by Small Business Britain in partnership with BT. The awards are a national competition recognising small businesses using sustainability to innovate and grow, and the winners were announced at BT's headquarters in London on 11 March 2025.
What the awards are for
They recognise small businesses using sustainability to drive commercial growth rather than treating it as a separate exercise — waste reduction, energy savings, rethinking supply chains, and the rest. Two £5,000 grants went to the winners. Which is a fair description of the model here: the value recovered from equipment that can be refurbished is what pays for the collection, the data destruction and the processing, and that is what makes it possible to do all of it for free.
What we do
- Reuse comes first. If a machine still works, it goes to someone who needs it. What genuinely can't be saved goes for materials recovery through a licensed recycler — and the donor is told which of the two happened.
- Devices go to people, not resellers. Schools, charities and community organisations, weighted towards young people out of education or employment.
- Free at both ends. No fee to donate, no fee to receive, no minimum quantity.
Being straight about it
Finalist is not winner, and we're not going to write it up as one. It's a shortlisting, we're pleased with it, and it's the first external recognition this organisation has had. If that changes, we'll say so here — and if it doesn't, we'll leave this page exactly as it is.
For anyone wanting the source rather than our word for it, the awards are documented at smallbusinessbritain.uk/green-growth-awards.
