Electronics contain nasty stuff — lead, mercury, cadmium. When they end up in landfill, those chemicals leach into the soil and groundwater. A single laptop battery can contaminate thousands of litres of water.
It Might Actually Be Illegal
In the UK, there are laws about how you dispose of electronic waste. Dumping it in household bins technically breaks WEEE regulations. Councils can fine you, and it's really not worth the hassle.
What To Do Instead
- Donate it to us. We pick it up for free, wipe your data, and give it a second life.
- Take it to a recycling centre. Most council tips have an electronics section.
- Don't just shove it in a drawer. It's not going to get any less old sitting there.
